Spain has seen this and provides options for nationals and residents to live in the Iberian Peninsula with their relatives (ascendant, descendants and spouses, or domestic partners) through the procedures that we will explain in this post, which will depend specifically on the nationality of the person you want to bring to your family.

Community family card

European citizens by the prerogatives who enjoy for being nationals of countries that belong to the European Union have a special procedure for the management of this card. By proving the filiation and the economic means for the maintenance of minor children and of the couple can thus manage their residence in the country.

This process will be done in a different way depending on the nationality of the family member, since the card that will be issued will depend on it. That is why the relatives of the resident or of the Spaniard who are also European when managing this will obtain a document called the Certificate of the European Union, while non-European relatives will receive a TIE.

What do they need to get their TIE?

For the management of the TIE, unlike the European certificate, an authorization must be requested from the immigration office before its issuance, which will be in charge ofevaluating the documentation that proves the family relationship, financial means and possession of adequate housing for the family, which is demonstrated through the padron.

Family reunification

  • Possession of a suitable home for the sponsor and the reunited.

Where I should do this process?

The procedure is carried out at the immigration office, which will evaluate the application and, subsequently, decide on its viability. The procedure can be done with those regrouped at origin or in Spain. It is always recommended doing it before their arrival in Spain.

And what about other dependents?

In the figure of a community relative, other dependents are foreseen, such as parents or some other relative who, for proven reasons, need the resident or the Spaniard in question to survive, such as siblings or in-laws, among others.

To carry out this procedure, all the documentation that is required for children or couples must be provided, in addition to that which demonstrates the dependence on the part of the third person, such as periodic transfers of money for their maintenance or medical reports that indicate the situation of total disability or partial that the family member presents.

Can my family member work with this card?

Yes, the community relatives and the reunited have the same rights and duties as the person who requested their residence, and while they are not exercising lucrative activities they can benefit from the Social Security of their working family member, so they can manage health care without any problem.
