There are many ways to come to live in Spain. In this post we will explain two different ways of residence if you are a non-European foreigner who wants to move.

It is important to point out the difference between residence and stay. The first is the way of life in the Spanish territory by which it is declared that one person resides in Spain “indeterminately” (although it may be finite). The second one is linked to the plan that the foreigner has to come to Spain and, once the reason for which he came to Spain has been fulfilled, he/she leaves the country.

Now, in this post we will talk about non-profit and highly qualified person residences.

Initial residence and work authorization for highly qualified professionals.

This residence is granted to non-EU foreigners who have been hired by a company established in Spain . The contracting company must request the residence permit in the name of the foreigner in question and must justify the hiring of the non-European citizen.

The foreigner must provide for him/her and his/her family (if applicable) various documents such as:

  • Passport
  • Criminal record
  • Health certificate
  • Children’sbirth certificate (if applicable)
  • Marriage certificate, or common law couple certificate (if applicable) among others.

Initial authorization of temporary non-profit residence

The non-profit residence, in terms of practical requirements, is the same for the residence of highly qualified professionals. You have to demonstrate the possession of enough resources to stay in Spanish territory for the duration of the residence, as well as a private health insurance for which you do not need to use the country’s Social Security.

Can I do it by myself?

This management can be done personally and does not require the initiation of the procedure by any other person. The applicant can do it when he considers it, both for himself and for the relatives who require residence.

Fingerprinting, what’s that?

You have arrived in Spain and carried out all the necessary steps to live legally in the territory, such as residence management, padron and you have to do “fingerprinting” but what is that? What footprints? .

Foreigners that live in Spain must have a card that shows their residence permit . This card will says your name, surname, nationality, etc., has its NIE reflected, the residence they have and their photo, being then enough to live in Spain and mobilize within the European Union

But why do they call it “fingerprinting”?

During the appointment, the police officer will verifying your data, receiving your photo and requesting your signature. It will require the registration of the index finger prints of each hand in order to link with the identity of the person.
